Saratov theatre of opera and ballet
Saratov theatre of opera and ballet is one of the earliest founded in the Volga region and nationwide. It has more than 200 years history. By the beginning of the 20th century, the city advanced to a position of the centre of musical activities throughout the area. The pride of the city, the Conservatory, was indeed the first institution of the kind in Russian province, as were also the Theatre of opera and ballet.
Currently, the Theatre proudly maintains and keeps up the world’s tradition of musical arts. It has wide and outstanding repertoire based on classical works, such as “Eugene Onegin” and “Queen of Spades” by Tchaikovsky, “The Magic Flute” by Mozart, and of course the classic ballet – “Swan Lake”. Also, there are many contemporary performances in this theater repertoire.
The names of Saratov leading opera singers and ballet dancers are well known in Russia and worldwide. The Theatre history itself is a cultural message to the society.
